When you think about what this day means it sounds a little strange to put Happy in front of it.

Here is to the bold and brave who gave all and a salute to all on here who have lost someone special.

Thank you to all who served, listening to the news on Saturday the reported said fifty percent of the population don't understand the meaning of Memorial Day. Across the board we don't see recognition of those who sacrifice for the good of all. This starts in the schools and we need to change the mindset of those who take without giving. End of rant. Rest In Peace Hero's.

We have a cemetery across the street. Each year a group pulls up in old oil trucks, one festooned with speakers playing patriotic music. The neighbors come out of our houses. They play taps, followed by a speech about Memorial Day, always acknowledging the Civil War veteran interred in the cemetery who was a Medal of Honor recipient, then do a gun salute, followed by the Star Spangled Banner being played and the flag raised from half to full mast (this year it was at half through the weekend by Executive Order, so was not lowered before sunrise). It’s a moving experience every year.
We then went to my girlfriends fathers grave to edge, plant, mulch and decorate. He was USA in Vietnam and died at 40 from Agent Orange.
It’s not a happy day, but it is a good and right day.
