Reel Recommendations?

What do you guys recommend on a light weight jigging setup? Just bought a Jigging World Dark Knight that will be used for a couple deep drop haddock and cod trips throught the year but mostly for tog, fluke, bass and BSB most of the time in a variety of depths mostly on the shallower side. Not sure what to look at as this will be my first conventional/baitcaster setup. Mainly looking for a small profile reel to keep the weight down and the setup nice and light.

I was looking at but not limited to

Daiwa Lexa LX-HD400HSL-P

Seigler SGN Long Crank

Shimano Tranx TRX301AHG

Saltist SALTIST15H

Something with a flip switch or button to drop the line down is a plus.

Open to any other suggestions. thanks in advance!

Saltiga 15 high gear ratio. JDM model if you can find it. Jigging World may have it.

You'd want a 5.1 ratio for tog but high speed is ok for everything else on your list. If using it for tog just under load the spool or reel slower.

I think you need 2 reels, one for deep drop and one for shallow stuff, 120' and less.

I have a diawa level wind in the 20 size for when I used to do cod or haddock or whiting.

For everything else I also use the saltiga 15.

I prefer the standard flip switch for reel disengagement. The thumb button is a pain in the ass, for me anyway. Especially when you have

to give slack when togging.

The levelwind is nice because you don't need to worry about the line lay on the reel. Fish one time at 250-300' all day and the thumb you use to lay the line will be raw.

Maybe the other reel guru, Tony "Snaps" will chime in.

Or, you can get a nice Penn 60.

Lexa is good for most of what you are doing but I wouldn't deep drop with it.

I agree, gret for Jigging Cbass, tog in the shallows. Deep drop is a different game, see MP/AFG recommendation below.

I agree level wind for the real deep drops

Ohhh...we like to go BIG down here.

Your suggestions are fine for some people (like me?). One is heavy though and as a 1st reel of the type, both of my suggestions are light and have level wind.

SO, I conclude I'm smarter (and better looking) than you!
