Black Hole USA rods review

Last fall the only rod I was using it's Suzuki 10' most for schoolies , but was couple fish up 20 lb  .Rod handled that fish  just fine .So far very reliable rod.

Part I

 

When I was introduced to Black Hole Company, we were specialized in jigging and popping then. The first development of Black Hole rods were jigging and popping rods 

We introduced Black Hole Nano jigging rods.  

When we landed 600 lb - 900 lb giant using Black Hole Cape Cod Special 450g rods, it was shock as no other such light rods can catch big giant before.

The blank weighs only 6 oz.

I knew The Nano rods are strong, but I did not know the 450g Nano rod can endure 50 lb - 60 lb drag pressure and land big giant in 30 minutes - one hour.

I’ve used the 106h nano ended up selling it to opt for a different rod. It did the job but I did not feel comfortable jigging it. I didn’t like the way it handled jigs, ended up only used it for pencils and top water. Got sick of carrying 2 rods so I switched to a different rod to do both.

Ksong in the UK they generally use longer rods here I think a lot of people here think the 6 to 7 foot rods are for kids but there again we don’t have freshwater bass here very few people would own a smaller rod than 9 foot bar boat / kayak rods. Oh are black hole using graphene in there blanks? The thing people are into atm here is one to three k weave on the outside of the blank sanded very stealth looking not bling.

Nano rods are soft. It is not jigging rods at all. It becomes very popular among plugging anglers now. If you prefer to carry one rod for jigging and plugging, I recommend Black Hole Striped Bass Special 1 oz - 6 oz or 2 oz - 8 oz.

I just build 10'6' Nano Light for 3'4-4 oz .I build it for general use  didn't use it yet, 

using a factory layout . Definitely will wright my review after use .

CanalSharpie what was your concerns while using your rod ?What didn't  satisfy you ? Just want to know your opinion since I almost bought a heavy blank for canal .

The rod becomes popular as it is almost moderate rod and it is strong.

I found many anglers love moderate rods.

The rods are our high-end rods.

I have owned 4 Black Hole Rods. I currently own 1, the 8’. I think the reel seat is too close to the butt. 

 

I owned the 10’ Suzuki and it was a nice trout rod, but really didn’t can’t SP minnows better than my Lamiglas XRA1203 and that had more balls so I sold the 10’ Suzuki. Way too light for serious surf fishing for large striped bass. 

 

I had and sold 2 slow pitch rods. The spiral wrapped conventional and the spinner. I liked those rods, but didn’t use them enough to justify keeping them.

I found different areas prefer different lengths of rods. In Texas, boat fishermen prefer use light 7' freshwater conventional rods for speckled trout and red drum. 

 

For Grephene, I don't know it can justify the high prices and performance. It has to be proven.  For now, Nano rods are light enough and strong enough.

Many regard the 10' Suzuki rod as excellent casting rods for SP minnows.  

The lamiglas XRA1203 rods must be excellent rods though I never tough them.

Yes I understand the graphene is extremely expensive, there are a few companies using it here a couple of fly,carp and beach casting rod companies but it comes at a hefty premium, but I will say as I have a couple of fly rods with the graphene impregnated resin and they are extremely thin, light and the recoil on them is amazing I believe this is the way to go but I understand price is a very big factor, Maybe a SSE super series elite pass the extra cost on to the customers but don’t forget us rod builders with the blanks ;-) lol.

I have the cape cod special surf II 10’ heavy. I actually was worried that it might be a bit too heavy or too short when I first started using it and it did take me a little while to warm up to it. I’ve only fished it for one season but I can tell you there is no other heavy jigging rod that I would switch to.
 

The rod is definitely overkill for schoolies and even 10/15 pound stripers but really shines throwing 3/6 oz and turning/lifting/horsing in heavy fish in fast current. Distance is also pleasantly no issue as the 5 oz jigs can still hit the ~middle of the ditch and plenty of other fish in much closer.

 

Earlier in Spring or Later in the Fall, I’ll be continuing to fish my 10’6” TFO, but when it’s big tides or big fish, I know which rod I’ll be taking with me as a pure big jig stick.

It was rated 2-6, but throwing a 3 oz jig just felt like it was overloaded. On the jigging end it just didn’t have the lifting power for jigging I liked, to soft. It was great with pencils though and if I was willing to walk down with two rods every time I would have kept it for top water. I just hated lugging two rods with Korkers, surf bag and walking distance away from people. And if I decided to keep a fish, it was even more of a pain.  I ended up just getting a century 1328ss to do both.

If you were looking for plugging and jigging rod, I wish you tried our 10' and 11' Blac Hole Striped Bass Special 2 oz - 8 oz rod.

I fished with 12' Black Hole Striped Bass Special 2 oz - 8 oz for big drum this afternoon and caught 4 big drum upto 40 lb. It cast 3 oz spoon like a dream and the rod is so powerful that it rarely bent for 40 lb big drum.

Don’t believe those were out yet at the time. This was 2016-2017 when I made the switch. I would still by a black hole rod, I don’t surf fish much anymore. I mostly boat fish now and started moving into pelargics and migratory species.
