Black Hole USA rods review

Hey Kil, I'm planning on building myself a rod for pitching and free lining live baits (nearshore tampa bay), usually with shrimp, pilchards, or whatever else is the hot hatch of the day. I don't expect to ever go over 20 lb line and I'll probably stay close to 15-17 lb line. So far the three blanks I've narrowed down to are the 691UL, 791UL, and 701L (all challenger bank series), so which one do you think would be best for this type of fishing? Is there a different blank from the ones I listed that you'd recommend?

Here is a picture of drum using prototype 9'6" Black Hole Striped Bass Special Moderate 1 oz 0 6 oz rod by a local angler.  He loves the rod. He can cast one oz lure very far.

I didn't feel good and I gave up fishing.

There are many choices.

6'9" Challenger Bank 691UL

7' Challenger Bank 701L

7'9" Challenger Bank 791UL

8' Challenger Bank 801L

8' Charter Special L

9'6" Suzuki

10' Suzuki

Ah okay, is there any reason why you would choose the 791UL over the 691UL for pitching live baits?

king salmon using 8'6" Black Hole Suzuki II Ultra Light rod and IRT 200 reel at Oak Orchard Dam in NY.

I thought the ultra light rod is not strong enough for big king salmon, but the rod handled king salmon beautifully.

Hi Kil,

What is the maximum sinker weight for bait fishing as well as jig weight that the BH Challenger Bank 761MH can handle?  Looking for a cod rod for the Rhode Island party boat scene.

Thanks!

I did not choose the 79UL over the 691UL.  It depends on how long rods you prefer.

I think the 761MH rods are good for local cod on party boats. You can use sinkers and jigs upto 14 oz.
