If you can't find clams give mackerel a try,it works really well and stays on the hook better.

Agreed, many people think the prime bait for haddock is clams. Caught plenty of most every species of bottom fish on mackerel or herring chunks. When I use to tuna fish if we had all the tuna rods in order and plenty of live bait I would bottom fish with just chunk bait or jigs. I've got haddock of frozen crayfish before too.

Thanx everyone for advice. Went out yesterday about 9-10 miles out of Nahant/Marblehead near some known 'hills' @150-200 feet deep. Used clams because all I could find to buy and didn't have any frozen mackerel left from last year - got cod but no haddock. Was good to get the boat out finally.
