Kayak lock

I’m looking for some recommendations in regards to locking my kayak when it is being stored at my home.

What is a safer option, cable or chain?

I use a cable with a plastic coating over it . I think it's safer then a chain but no less likely to get stolen if someone really wants it .

When my wife doesn’t join me I’d lock her kayak up using a cable lock through the scuppers and around the trailer. Take any thing off of it you don’t want to walk.

The lock is as important as the chain/ cable. Write your name in sharpie where it won’t be seen below deck if there is a hatch. Record the serial number or an identifying mark on the kayak. For a poor mans alarm balance an open jar of pennies on/ in the yak.
