Me and my friends catch these in the delaware river and i cant figure out what species it is. Anyone have any insight some one told me its a shad but it doesnt look like pictures ive seen

It’s called a Fall Fish - they do rise to dry flies and a lot of people think their fishing / casting to trout. A tell tale sign is the rise form will have a bubble - thats a fall fish rise.

Fall fish are prime forage for many species like trout, walleye, bass, and members of the Esox family.

I was a little late to this and I'm really surprised that nobody commented that it was a "white perch"!!

 

They do get very large and the largest one that I had ever caught was several years ago on a SOL members trip to the upper Delaware!!
