We are puppy Raisers for Canine Companions for Independence

We get them at 8 weeks, have them for 18/20 months and then turn them into the North East Region Headquarters. Our job is to teach them about 30 basic commands and socialize them. When we turn them in they go for 6 month of advanced training and then are matched with a person. Some end up as facility dogs, emotional support/PTSD or true service dogs. It SUCKS giving them up but when you meet there new person and see them together it all makes sense.

That’s so cool! I couldn’t imagine putting a year and half in a pup getting him or her trained and then handing it to a stranger. Must be tough but definitely rewarding. Keep up the good work!
