Rob to some this disease will be more than scary, should it hit them . Because of the inadequate testing and the data it will provide we are operating under this guideline to hopefully mitigated the final outcome, which is surely more then scary given the results we are getting from the other countries now going through this unknown process on what will work and what will not . Once they are able to test in the thousands rather the hundreds they are now testing we may know more . The severity may overwhelm the hospital system and then if that does happen we will see more deaths being recorded across the whole of the United States as is being seen in the other countries . The doctors will determine who lives and who die based on age and who has the best chance to survive if at all possible . Apparently one item respirators are in more demand for those suffering the worst and they are limited in other countries , so a decision is made by a doctor on who has the best chance in surviving and some one else may just be not given one to survive , because they do not have enough to go around. Will we see this same thing here , who knows , but in the end this will remain a scary process until it can be declared over and done , which for now may go for another several months. coastalfreak, nellytrader, Theseeker66 and 1 other 4 Life member M.B.B.A #509 Life member Izaak Walton Fishing Association Life member Cape Cod Canal
robc22
Funny how this disease originated in China.......You know the country that: Supports that nut in N. korea and his ballistic missile and nuclear weapons program that can now hit our country Developed hypersonic missiles that can take out our carriers from a 1000 miles away Has been well documented that the chinese government has flooded our streets with fentanyl Has demanded that our navy stay out of "their" side of the Pacific Our economy is now in shambles and hundreds of thousands of americans put out of work I think they are laughing their asses off in Beijing........ giggyfish and Theiceman33
jason colby
I'm not downplaying the seriousness of this whole thing but if you take "reasonable precautions", don't lose your head and wash your hands/face well after being in contact with the public there is a lower chance of you getting CV-19 than getting the flu. As Rob said, this is nowhere as big a deal as the media makes it out to be. Sure, better safe than sorry but an over-reaction, out of proportion to reality is insane at this point. I've been watching the show "Pandemic" on Netflix and just some of the outbreaks of H1N1 in the past two decades were far more deadly and far more widespread than this coronavirus outbreak and yet the media is "pumping it" no less than 10 times as hard. What has changed? JillJillu, b-ware, Vaporizor and 1 other

ROB ALL YOU POSTED MAY WELL BE TRUE. We may know at some point , but in the mean time keep yourself strong and rebuild your immune system if you can. We have not yet reached the high point of this disease, so all we have is our faith and taking care of ourselves the best we can . DAQ
I'm with RC and JC, I see much of what is going on regarding the Wuhan to be over reaction. The media is continuing to drive the foolish hysteria and it doesn't look like it's going to slow for some time. There is no reason to crush our economy and adversely effect billions of peoples lives. west tide, Vaporizor and Peter D 2 1 Embrace American Privilege

Lots of "inside talk" of this at Boston hospitals.....very little has been made public. A number of medical professional at the three major Boston institutions have already been tested positive Said hospitals have inadequate supplies of protective gear for their medical staff. One such item is face masks. The President of one institution issued a statement to its nurses instructing them to reuse their face masks Can you imagine....reuse their face masks. Exposing the nurse to whatever her 15-20-30 patients may have! And, therein lies the Achilles heel…….when the medical staff itself is sick, absent and no longer in a position to care for patients. At that point you can forget about the lack of ventilators or triaging, because all hope will be lost.. Bait Tailer

The difference being, that you are looking at the Flu's final tally per year. You can't compare a before with an after. Being at the tip of the iceberg, the fallout from not taking full preventive actions involves the deaths of millions not thousands. Billions will be lost either way, not taking drastic measures will likely result in the loss of a large portion of elderly and the medically compromised. To your point... IT'S NOT GOOD! We aren't faced with a choice of good or bad at this point, it's down to bad or worse. Minimizing damage is our full focus now, not so much for the young and healthy among us but rather to protect the more fragile... as we should. MikeBlue
In Italy Covid-19 has killed roughly 1,800 people out of 25,000 cases, that's a 7% kill rate, much higher than the flu. Italy was the first country hit and it took too long for them to do what the US is doing now. With the flu it takes on average 24 hours for symptoms to manifest. With covid-19 it can take up to two weeks, that is why this virus is so dangerous. Any one here could have been infected a week ago and not know it. "It" wasn't before those things you just outlined It was last year. 34,000 died from the flu last year, 61,000 died from the flu in the previous year. 12,000 H1N1 deaths, 10 some years ago. Why no press/media hysteria, chicken little, sky is falling, fear mongering statements from Fauci at that time? Yet, 60 to date deaths from C19 brings the USA to its knees. Why do you think that is? Why? Because the death rate for C19 is much higher. 20+ times higher than the regular flu. That’s many millions of deaths if we do nothing. MikeBlue
"What is clear is that people can be infected without symptoms. For example, the NBA player, Christian Wood of the Detroit Pistons, tested positive – and had no symptoms. In fact, in the days before testing, he had a career high 32 points. He presumably was infected several days before that in contact with Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz, who was the first NBA player to test positive. Evidence from South Korea and Italy is reinforcing how our testing strategy can lead us astray. Italy, like the United States, has focused on testing people who are ill. South Korea has taken a more national surveillance approach, making testing widely available. In Italy the distribution of people testing positive is skewed toward older age. This distribution makes us think that mostly the older population is infected. But in South Korea, the distribution is quite different, with a skew toward younger people and a peak around 20-29-year olds, the groups that may be socializing the most. Even many children were testing positive at much higher rates than Italy. The implication is that there are a lot of people out and about who are positive, but not overtly sick – and are vectors for spread."
