Cheap option is the kid carrier from big box store. 

 

Expensive nice option is to look through the myriad of options designed for long distance touring and bike packing.

I went with a pizza rack on the front, bungee a crate with two rod holders from Vibe kayaks. Works like a charm.

I mount my rods to the front basket at a swept back angle.  I can swing my leg over the back of the seat thst way.

 

Angle the rods back as far as practicable becuase of trees etc.

I like the idea of rods in front, easier mounting, security from overhead snatches, just knowing where stuff is. Thank you.

I've had them on the back, but it definitely increases the risk of snapping a rod tip. Just be aware that when there's a lot of weight on the the front wheel it affects handling a bit.
