It all depends on month/tide/time/weather and location but here in NJ i love a 4 or 5 inch paddle tail or a small white bucktail with a 3 or 4 inch twisty tail drifted in the current

A few years ago, just me and a fly Fisherman on the beach, he was catching on every cast, I was throwing every plug I had with no luck. I put a 1/2oz sinker on the bottom TA clip and a clouser on the dropper, started catching instantly. Match the hatch

Mostly I avoid smart fish put it happens.

A big old bear goes lumbering to water and splash in.

A great angler finds a stealth approach ,lean on a wall. get a bush behind you ,stay way back.

When fish are aware of you lay get Leary.
