Getting some CTS blanks from HL on monday or tues(probably tues). A 10' 4wt and a 9' 8wt. This is the handle for the 4wt. That one is up first. Hopefully, I can bang it out in 3-4 days including drying time. It will see the Farmington shortly after it's done.

Atlantic salmon flies that I'm tying for a friend as part of a beginner's "kit" to fish the salmon rivers of the Gaspé.

The first two are from the Rat series (Roy Angus Thompson was the originator of the first two Rats of the series) ie the very good Rusty Rat and Silver Rat (this one we call the Silver Rat Special because of a different body made of oval mylar tinsel, no ribbing instead of the original flat silver tinsel with a ribbing of oval gold tinsel).20200209_124208.jpg.a1f9b827197235e0dc1ea9bca4cf57d6.jpg20200209_124439.jpg.49e242b540c64a8c17270488f9cb2372.jpgAnd two hair wing adaptations of British classic featherwings, the Green Highlander and the Black Dose.20200209_124053.jpg.a3c3da4d9d8c0df95fbccb4151cef000.jpg20200209_123640.jpg.893dba8a4a8be9cb2cf45063fb7a0a32.jpg

Nice Suave,

My Dad used to fish those patterns on the Mirimichi and the Cains River ( tributary).  Brings back memories looking through his boxes.  I tended to fish the easy ties, red and green butt bears hair ties or Bill Fullertons Sundance.

My first time salmon fishing was on the Upsalquitch in NB.  I showed up with two boxes full of flies.  The guide said, "those are nice flies- you can use whatever you want so long as it is a size 8 Rusty Rat".

A great fly indeed. Caught my first salmon on it forty-five years ago on the Dartmouth River in Gaspé and quite a few more on it afterwards.

I missed fishing on Friday and Saturday because of work.  My girlfriend likes to organize so she continued with the creation of the organized fly tying area.  This, in turn, prompted me to tie up a couple.

Articulated Squid- 1.5" shank and 2/0 circle streamer.  I love the MFC weightless dumbbells and the Farrar Blend Brushes.

Tutti Frutti for a friend going to Florida

Drew from this point do you turn the grip as is or do you epoxy to blank and then turn?
