Tilefish Rod Options

Hello everyone,

I've been lucky to have done a ton of fishing on the east coast from Maine to Key West. There is one species that I haven't tackled yet, and that's tilefish. I'll be headed offshore of NJ in the early summer on the Voyager to tackle these deep water beasts. I believe in buying good gear and have a Shimano Talica 12II and a backup reel, so I'm good on the reel, but would like recommendations on rods. I live an hour+ away from the Reel Seat in Brielle so visiting on a weekday to pick Dave's brain isn't as feasible, although I do plan on buying rigs/jigs/tackle from him.

What are some good rods for tilefishing in the northeast? Anything worthwhile in the $150-$300 range?

Thanks,

Pete

You can call Dave on the phone if you don't want to drive there...he's easy to talk to.  I don't know anyone else that spends more time tile fishing than he does and he probably has exactly what you're looking for at his shop.
