I'm thinking about getting into skydiving and would like to make my own parachute.  I have a sewing machine and about 10 sets of silk sheets.  Anybody have any experience with this?

I would like to volunteer to be your adopted son, before you do this.

I'm sure it's just easy "paperwork" to be done online....

I think you have to put a lot of holes in it so it vents properly.

Do the holes need to be symmetrically located or just anywhere in the parachute?

Well, that depends on if it's a square, steerable chute, or an old style one.

And sew a lead line around the perimeter like a cast net so it keeps its shape

I was wondering how to make sure it opened properly.  That should work great.

Think I could do it with some old wheel weights?

While you are at it you can save some money by buying the para cord at Harbor Freight or Home Depot.

I have been thinking about that. Do you think that there is any strength difference between the stuff that is dyed green and the stuff that is dyed orange?  Obviously, I want the strongest cord I can get.
