I could tell you how great it was for me it was not, I did catch good numbers of bass but nothing large, 2019 was the year of the short fin squid in CCB this is the second year they have moved inshore. The jigging bite for big bass only lasted 3 or 4 days off of Race Point on Cape Cod, tuna bite was just soso also there was a run of big blue fish, that lasted the better part of August. Almost all my fish came on squid style jerk baits

Fishing the same LISound and Hudson fisheries, the same 65+ kayak trips as the last 20 years I noticed some changes.

Bunker- the same huge schools as always.

Bluefish-plethora of 12”-18”, not 1 gorilla, very few snappers

Bass-  a dramatic increase of catch of medium fish, more keepers, and a decrease of micro bass.

Sea robin-much less than in the past.

Livelining- not a single fish of any type.

Same story as everyone else. Keepers weren’t easy to come by but they were definitely readily available every trip. Just didn’t put in the effort or time. Lots of small fish. Never skunked so that’s a win. Not the best season at all. Not even close but by far my funnest season I had since 2016. The last two year though they were my bet seasons were not the funnest.

Well the year isn't over yet and I will continue to fish for a while but it's been pretty lousy.  Mostly skunked whenever I went out.  Caught some of the smallest bass I have ever caught in the surf in the early spring.  A few small blues inshore in May. Nothing like it was a couple of years ago. Got a keeper striper in the surf in late May.  Released it.  Lots of small fluke inshore through out the summer.  Only a few bass this fall.

Wow. I kind of feel worthless now. That might be more bass than i have caught if i added up years worth. I wish i was able to get out more.

What was the bait your areas??

Peanut bunker, adult bunker and sand eels. I'm sure there was a bunch of other bait around that I didn't see baby Blackfish, heels, baby fluke snappers

Well yeah, I fish the same areas and if the sandeels are close to shore it's usually an every cast bonanza. But if I was catching rats every cast I'd either move or put on a huge plug lol.

I’d rate this year as the same as the pst few years, declining number of big bass, lots of very small fish, and those mid sized fish seem to be ghosts, caught fish from 14”-44” but the lack of fish is pretty concerning, and as said above the lack of bluefish sucks too :(
