Is POTUS extortion capped?

Since right wingers here are now arguing that it's SOP for POTUS to use Aid money to extort nations for personal gain,

I wonder is there a dollar amount cap on this criminal behavior?

Could Trump have say told President Z. that the funds would NOT be released until they paid Trump $100,000?

wait....I thought receiving something of value from a foreign government was a crime? Did they change the Constitution? What does the Constitution say about bribery....like "I'll give you the $ Congress allocated, and the DoD cleared, IF you say there's an investigation into my leading political rival"....is that bribery, or is the only crime withholding the money without reporting why? I hope it's not bribery, I think the Constitution says something about that

Quote from Lawfare:

In fact, the Founders had a broader conception of bribery than what’s in the criminal code. Their understanding was derived from English law, under which bribery was understood as an officeholder’s abuse of the power of an office to obtain a private benefit rather than for the public interest. This definition not only encompasses Trump’s conduct—it practically defines it.

The Hobbs act would come into play as well......

as it explicitly addresses public officials who use their office for extortion.

however laws only matter if we choose to enforce them,

and the GOP majority seems ready to rule that POTUS CAN use foreign aid as leverage for extortion....

so I am wondering if they plan on capping this amount.

******NEWS FLASH******

Anytime a 1st term President uses foreign aid as carrot on a stick he's doing it to influence outcomes in a foreign nation in hopes of bolstering his electibility  for a second term

LOL

awesome,

but POTUS doesn't hand out aid like halloween candy,

Congress does.

and Trump wasn't giving it in hopes of a positive outcome,

he was withholding it and making secretive demands .

but other than that, good point.

Sorry to slow you down with facts and stuff

facts....

you are equating positive outcomes of foreign aid,

to denying foreign aid and making secretive demands for personal gain,

this is the nonsense that you Republicans must now engage in to defend the corrupt leader of your personality cult.
