Pulled something unusual out of the ocean tonight

Fishing for stripers from the beach tonight. South fork out front. Felt something heavy. Not seaweed, not a snag. But heavy, thought it was a fish at first but it did not fight back. Reeled it in and pulled it up on the sand...

Any idea what it used to propel? Dolphin? Baby whale? Porpoise? Maybe sharks around. Looked like bite marks on the flesh. Spine was big...

Cool. Looks like a whale tail. Going to have to google some picks to nail it down.

I tried, I couldn't. The white on the edge of the tails is throwing me.

I googled "whale tail"...  not what I was expecting for results...

But thank you for verifying for us, that the answer wasn't in those search term results   LOL

Definitely a whale of some sort. Maybe a pilot whale. Sharks swim with their tail left to right, and mammals swim with their tale up and down. That tail indicates that.

Could it be from a seal. No expert, just saying.

Seal tails look much different, looks like dolphin to me if that discoloration is from rotting.
