Philly’s Heinz Wildlife Refuge opens just to deer hunters, angering birders in prime viewing season.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service received no real pushback last year when it proposed opening the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum to bow hunting for white-tailed deer for the first time in nearly 50 years.

So officials pressed ahead. The hunt is set to start Wednesday on a portion of the 993-acre refuge in Philadelphia and Tinicum Township. It would be the only legal deer hunt on public land within city borders.

Will be interesting to see if it goes off without a hitch.  Up at Tyler they turn out in mass to harass hunters.  It is good to see the USF&WS open a new hunt when much of Washington is going PC these days.

Fall 2019 Antlerless deer permits will be made available via a lottery to the following Pennsylvania Game Commission-defined licensed groups: Mentored Youth (Ages 12 -16 with little or no Hunting Experience); Mentored Adult (Ages 17 years and older with little or no Hunting Experience); Junior Hunter (Age 12-16 year old Junior License Holders); Active Duty Military; Veterans; and People with Disabilities. All participants must possess a valid refuge hunting special use permit and comply with all terms and conditions.

Terri is in: his mental deficiency without question qualifies as a handicap.

How many hunters will exit the area looking like a pin cushion from all the "errant" arrows flying around? (only kidding)

I drove by there one night at 4 am there were people out dressed in bunny out fits. I had to put salt down in newtown. It was raining ice side ways. Some one threw deer urine on a state cop that day. They are nuts there.
