First day of October, got out for a couple hours this evening. There are a decent amount of small fish but nothing bigger than 18” was caught today. October should be exciting so keep all of us guys around the Chesapeake area updated!

Slow pick of rocks yesterday morning.  Predawn bass took a white Zoom Fluke, midmorning bass took a gold Mepps #3.

Got enough perch for a meal too.

Yeah everyone I know had similar fishing yesterday. Slow pickings of small fish. There are blues around but not anywhere as thick as a few years ago.

The fish are still in a summer pattern. Last year at the end of September I could get 20 keepers in an evening within sight of my slip. That area has nothing but a few dinks right now. Any fish I am catching are close to the surface. Rods with weight have been doing very little. There has been very little bird activity. After the cooler weather comes in the fish should school up and provide some jigging action.  The abrupt weather change will probably put the fish off for a while until they shift to a fall pattern. I am hoping it will be game on then.

Not many stripers trolling fast but great Spanish Mack action the other day! PS last fish was a keeper Rock so we kept it for dinner along with the rest!

I had 6 fish above 20” yesterday and my friend had the biggest of the day being over 25”. Little 16” and under fish every time the lure hit the water. These winds and cooler temps brought some really good fishing, will be headed out again this afternoon so we’ll see how it goes.

Got to the beach late but still managed a couple better fish among the dozen fish under 16”. The two bigger ones being 21 and 24 inches. Not a bad night overall, just wish I could’ve made it there earlier.

Fished midbay western shore shallows and got only one rock at 19" before dawn on a talkin' popper.  Hit with about 8 feet of line out.  Borderline legal so he went back.

Hitting my favorite river as much as possible. Lots of fat little 19 inchers around. Hoping for some 10lbers to show up soon. Might have to go to the surf soon if it doesn't pick up.

Was only able to fish outgoing last night, a couple of hits but no hook ups, left as the the wind started to pick up.

Pretty slow night other than schoolies. Threw out a bloodwork rig to try to get some live bait and all of the sudden I had a 25” schoolie on a tiny little size 6 hook. Barely hooked too.

It should be really good by then. We’ve been seeing fish up to 45” just hanging out under bridge and pier lights but can’t entice them. Maybe by then they’ll be chasing our lures.

Probably not - big girls have not been showing up until December late and even then hit and miss and quick schools

Worse yet is that 95% of those fish are caught on boats that troll from sunrise until sunset. Not a lot of big ones for us shore fishermen :(
