Anyone seen or tried these?  Wondering if they would be suitable for the beach in the 7/8 weight.

It depends on what your expectations are. On the inside should be fine and on the outside in nice conditions to. This is a rod designed for spey casting in fresh water  so it is not ideal for beach usage.

The best way to evaluate how much rod you need is to try a few TH first. Ok not  easy to do that unless you know some one who has a rod and line and will let you borrow it. Next best thing is if fly shop  has a lawn to try out on. But nothing is as good as a beach to do testing on. Before you can evaluate you need to have a reasonable cast to. It’s the old catch 22.

ok  for a general purpose TH you are better off looking at 9 and 10 wts. These are spey line ratings not single hand rod ratings.

Wind is the problem and heavy fly lines will help get our flies out there.

You would probably need to look at longer rods get a bigger line rating.

No easy answer.
