I am in Newark Airport heading for Icy Bay Lodge, AK for coho with fly rods and spinning rods.

I  am bringing three new light 8'6", 9' and 9'6" Black Hole spinning rods to test them for coho.

Weather looks fine and coho are there.

I have no idea what kinds of lures work for coho. I bought some lures at Ramsey Outdoors in NJ.

20 years in Alaska chasing Coho,#1 lure is the Mepps #3  Aglia  silver spinner in size 3.

Cast it out and gently lift it to get  the blades to tick.

Stay in touch with it as it drifts with the current, slight bow in your line.

Work it over rocks etc. but you are letting it rise and fall.

Deadly:howdy:

ps: are you fishing the Situk?

I finally arrived at the lodge.

It seems coho here are so aggressive that they take anything thrown. :)

Guy who fished before us had all aching arms as they caught too many coho. :)

They say there are lots of coho in the bay in front of the lodge. I will try them this evening after dinner.

Wow. The view from the lodge is unreal. How unbelievably beautiful. Can't wait to see the coho pics!

Some of those lures should work fine for coho, especially the silver Krokodlie spoon in middle, and the mid-sized Danielson spoons with the red and white striped Daredevil pattern.

What a good start.

We fished about one hour before dinner.

We didn't go to normal spots and fished in the bay in front of the lodge. Still I released 7 and kept one which was bleeding.

I used prototype9'6" Black Hole rod rated 1/3oz_1 1/2oz. The rod is slightly lighter than 10'Black Hole Suzuki rod.

Main game will start from tomorrow.
