Labor day has now left us and it is time

to think about making jams and jellies for the winter supply. We got to pick our first crab apples today and with a little cleaning and a few days ripening a little more they will be ready for crab apple jelly. Now if my beach plums get a little more purple they should be good to go for Beach plum jelly an old cape cod stable .

Beach plum trips to Plum Island was a family excursion for years, starting in the 1950s. Sometime in the 80s, I believe, you needed a permit etc. and that was that.

My grandmother put up jar after jar. And my smoking days are over so no plants for me. But 40 years earlier......
