Hi. I just bought a baitcaster and a rod, both entry level,  and I would like to know how to maintain them properly . How do you clean your reel and rod , specially to get rid of the salt please ?  one guy on yt  simply sprays them like crazy with his garden hose...   what is a good and simple way plz.  thank you.

Rinse it in freshwater . Just a gentile stream, rub it with your hands. Let dry, that's it. unless your doing maintenance on it. If your conventional reel has a line guide ,oil the slide.

Don't blast it, that drive salt in

Rinse it

My method, get stuff that doesn't rot in the salt and fish in the rain once in a while

Twice a year, once before the spring run and once before the fall run, break the reels down completely, clean, re-oil and re-grease.

if its spinning keep the spool pointed downward when you rinse and there will be less chance of water ingress.  i pop the side plate and dump any water at the end of the day, when grease becomes discolored i service. i see in some threads people say a particular reel can not be fished in the surf because it is not sealed...nonsense. people been fishing the surf since cave man days. sealed reels been around for a very short time
