Pierce, that's a good idea.

I recently wondered the same as the OP, as sometimes i look down at my reel and wonder how seaweed got buried deep under there...and how best to, well........Prevention is better than curing, i guess.

An old sharpie taught to lay the reel on the ground and piss on it. Something about the chemical properties of urine that breaks down all of the crud. Then just a freshwater rinse.

That's called a "golden shower"......

I've been using my instapot with 2 oz of ky jelly.  It lubes the line nicely so it dont stick when you put it back on

Don’t forget the SPF50 to keep it from degrading in the sunlight

I just throw my stuff in the shower, give it a loofa and some no more tears and let it do its thing. But seriously, warm water, gentle pressure, always worked for me.

Just leave the reel in dishwasher; make sure you use Rinse only with High Heat Dry on.

Your line will be nice, dry and thigh.

This will help to cure oil and lube in the reel, too.

You will be killing two flies with one shot.

PS

Do not use Cascade; it may shrink the spool.
