ASrod
Alright so currently I’m using my VSX and a 10 footer and it’s serving me very well. But I would like a backup to have for whoever comes along with me when I fish as my setup is the only household surf outfit. I found a deal on a Penn SSVI4500BLS so that’s the reel I’ll go with but does anyone have a suggestion on a sub $250 rod I can put it on? Needs to cast a 3/4oz bucktail and be able to handle a 2.5oz tin... Edited August 1, 2019 by ASrod If you can dream it, I can meme it.
Old Hunter
Star makes some good rods in very agreeable price ranges. I use a 7'-6" Stellar Surf for my hatchback travel rod, works good with a Slammer 4500 for me. I would consider their longer rods at 8' & 9' to pair with your reel. HKJonathan
You don’t specify length but both the 9’’6” Blackhole Suzuki Special and 9’6” Tsunami Airwaves Elite are good rods. Suzuki in particular is great. Mojua

ThrowinPlugs
Airwave elite 9'6 and Blackhole Suzuki are the two that come to mind. I have both and they work exceptionally. I'm still getting used to the BH because it's almost TOO light. Also, the AE is prettttyyyyy moderate.

Birdsnester
I have a Daiwa Land Surf rod. It’s 14’ light as air and it’s telescopic!!! It casts a mile and it is totally awesome. I’d use that one and give your friend the one you use now.

Mojua
Love my Suzuki. Definitely light, but awesome backbone for such a petite rig. Only problem is it doesn't love throwing 2.5ozs. Also, it's a finesse rod..if you're gonna fish from sand, great. If you're gonna fish rocks, no way.
