I figured this would be interesting to see.

If you could only have one rod and reel combo, what would it be? You can not have any other setups.

Mine would have to be a Penn Spinfisher 4500 LL/Tsunami Airwave. Seems like a good combo for me.

I guess I would go back

to my roots: Penn 85 with nylon squidding line on light action six foot rod. I believe the rod was a Flyplex with a black wooden handle. Paid a whole $8 for the     rig but results are priceless.

I guess I'll be the first to say it... I'd take my blackhole Suzuki 10' and quantum smoke s3 50. That rod can do 90% of the fishing I do.

7 ft medium to medium heavy action 1/4 to 3/4 oz lure range in a spinning rod. A 3500 size if braid or a 4000 size if mono reel. It would not be ideal for a lot of my fishing but doable. I think I could catch fish anywhere in the world with that combo.

Interesting picks. Other than the Penn 85, I'm surprised that there is not more conventional reels. Would you guys consider spinning reels more versatile?

I like my 7'6" rouge lami 1-4 oz  with a Shimano sustain 5000 in the back water for top water, which is pretty much all i do

Lexa 400 on a 9' Lami Inshore Special

I can do virtually everything with that setup
