Please order by the rod numbers (#)

Order on this site.

No PM's or emails.

All rods sold including shipping and PayPal fees.

For all info re rod construction go to Fly Fishing site and look for SOL Fund raiser.

SINGLE HANDED RODS - $285 each (except one - #17) shipped to the lower 48. PayPal or check O.K.

No rod socks or tubes.

Note – I use the term “fast” below frequently.  How I define it is as follows:

A fast rod is one in which the blank’s tip “locks-up” faster (sooner) than a more moderate blank under the same load.  So, a fast rod will stop flexing with load “X” sooner (faster) than a moderate rod under the same load.

#1   Affinity-N – 9’0” #10

CTS custom blank based on the discontinued CTS MAXIM blank.  I had it built of high modulus graphite (57msi) instead of the lower modulus (44msi) of the original MATRIX) This rod has a moderate taper, and is very smooth.  It’s closer to a mid-flex rod vs the faster Affinity-X (FX).

Fuji #20, #16, REC Recoil s/f runners.

Built in 2013

#2   CTS Affinity-N 8’9” #10

Just like the above rod – but in 8’9” for a lower swing weight and more power.  I experimented with this blank and installed 12 guides.: #16 stripper, #12, #10 REC s/f Recoil spinning guide, #8 REC s/f spinning guide, 8 #8 REC s/f (low) spinning guides. Line runs through very smoothly.  All guides have legs.

The 8’9” blanks tend to be more powerful than the 9’0” model.

Built in 2013

#3   CTS Affinity-FO 8’6” #10

This is a custom blank that feels like a #8 in your hand – but fishes a #10 line.  I have, upon occasion, overlined it to a #12 Wulff BT Floater with big Gurglers.  Don’t let that scare you – it is a dream to cast for those with physical issues.  Fuji #16, #12. REC Recoil s/f.

Built in 2012

#4   CTS Affinity-X 9’0” #10

Arguably the King of Striper rods. REC Recoils throughout. Runners s/f. Fast rod.

Built in 2011.

#5   CTS Affinity-X 9’0” #10.  Fuji #20, #16.  REC Recoil snake runners. Fast rod.

Built in 2013

#6   CTS Affinity MX, 8’9” #9.  The MX is now discontinued but remains one of my favorites.  Has the same tip as the “X: - but the lower sections are more moderate than the “X”. Fuji #16, #12. Snakebrand runners

Built in 2015

#7   CTS Affinity-MX Custom blank.  9’0” #9 ½. CTS indulged me on this one.  It must be the only 9 ½ wt fly rod in the world.

A flex test had it come in exactly in the middle of the #9 and #10.

Same tip as the Affinity-X. Slightly more moderate lower sections than the “:X”.

Fuji #16, #12, #10. REC Recoil s/f runners.

Built in 2010

#8   CTS Affinity-X 9’0” #9

REC Recoils throughout. REC Recoil #20, #16, #12. REC Recoil s/f runners. Fast rod.

Built in 2011

#9   CTS Affinity-MX 9’0” #8. Fuji #16, #10. REC Recoil snake runners.

Same tip as the Affinity-X – but slightly more moderate butt.

NOTE: I am not happy with spacing of a few guides – so delivery will be delayed.

Built in 2013

#10   CTS Affinity-M. 8’6” #8 The most recent CTS model.  Not to be confused with the Affinity-MX.

It has a slightly stiffer tip and a more moderate lower section.

This rod was custom built for who may be the last of the fly-fishing greats. He wanted it short for accurate casts to Redfish. Light weight (L) Fuji #16, #12. Snakebrand runners.

Rod was never casted – still has some of the grease pencil building marks on it.

Built in 2015

#11   CTS Affinity-MX 9’6” #8.  Fuji #16, #12. REC Recoil snakes. Same tip as the Affinity-X – but slightly more moderate butt.

Built in 2014

#12   CTS Affinity-X 9’0” #7 Fuji #16, #12. REC Recoil s/f.  Fast rod.

Built in 2011

13.   CTS Affinity-X 9’0” #7.  Fuji #16, #12, #10.  REC Recoil s/f runners. Fast rod.

Built in 2010

#14   CTS Affinity- X 9’0” #6, Fuji #16, #12. REC Recoil s/f runners.  Fast rod.

Built in 2011

#15   Custom FSA 8’6”. #10/11.

Very powerful rod.  Would be great with heads or sinkers.  Great fish-fighting rod.

REC Recoils throughout.

The rods I used exclusively on the Cape in 2018 and 2019 were 9’0” versions of this rod.  At 8’6” – it is just too powerful for my old body.

I must inscribe blank info.  So, delivery will be delayed.  I also want to modify the current guide train to one more efficient.

Built in 2019

#16   Custom FSA labeled a 7/8 can handle a #9 line. This is the exception to the single hand price.  This rod is priced same as the 2 handed rods - $350.

This rod, like the 8’6” FSA above – is a 10’0” version of the 9’0” rod that became my favorite for two years on the Cape. BUT - I can feel, just by wiggling it, that I cannot swing this rod to generate the line speed I like with the 9’0” version.  It has not been out of the house – much less seen the water.

Fuji #20, REC Recoil s/f spinning guides #16, #12, #10. REC Recoil s/f #4 runners.

#17   CTS Affinity-X 9’6” #7. Fuji #16, #10. REC Recoil s/f runners. Fast rod.

Sorry – this is out of sequence.

Built in 2012

TWO HANDED RODS - $350 each shipped to the lower 48.  PayPal or check O.K.

#18   Affinity-X 11’0” #10. REC Recoil #20, #16, #12.  REC Recoil s/f runners

The stabilized wood in the grip is dark Amboyna burl. Impregnated, so safe in saltwater

Very fast rod.

Built 2009

#19   Affinity-X  for #9-10 lines / DQ 11’0” for #11-12 lines.  Fuji strippers and REC Recoils.

The stabilized wood in the grip is light Amboyna burl – so safe in saltwater

The rod has 7 sections - two sets of sections 2, 3 and 4.  They share the same butt section.

The upper sections for the Affinity X are for a #9/10 line.  The upper sections for the DQ are for #11-12

I have labeled them on blue painters’ tape. Don’t mix them up.

Built in 2013

#20   Affinity-X for #8-9 lines / DQ 11’0” for #10-11 lines.  Fuji strippers and REC Recoils.

The rod has 7 sections - two sets of sections 2, 3 and 4.  They share the same butt section.

The upper sections for the Affinity X are for #8-9 lines.  The upper sections for the DQ are for #10-11 lines.

I’ve marked them with blue painter's tape.  Don't mix them up.

Done.  Thanks Herb.

To all the SOL’ers out there, these rods are some of the finest pieces of craftsmanship you’ll find anywhere.  Easily worth double what Herb asks.  And Herb is one of the finest gentlemen you’ll find on here or on the water.
