zak-striper
10 hours ago, Kones1 said: the canal is man made. It forms an unnatural fish corral and makes it way too easy to exploit. It's not that man made. I found a map of Cape Cod from about 200 years ago. A river ran from Buzzards Bay to the herring run before the canal was dug. Stripers and herring have bern going through this ritual for lord knows how many thousands of years.
Southcoastphil
Wasn't this thread started with focus on fishing the Ditch during a summer holiday period? chris koltz 1 G.B.O.G.H. -- DT326 "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."--M. Beachorbust
The problem with the canal is you have a 70 mph highway right to edge coming from two directions. I live 75 miles from the canal, 35 from Plum Island, it takes me about 5 minutes longer to be fishing at the canal than it does to go to PI. and the fact that the biggest fish I've ever caught on the N. Shore is 32 inches, not pounds it's real easy to be tempted into contributing to the problem.
slacktide
The Monument river was a famous fishing resort before Grover Cleveland started fishing there. So the canal being over exploited is not new, it's just the Cape was harder to get to in 1840. Edited July 7, 2019 by slacktide spelling
