How does that work if the whole town is your blood relative. lol

Not sure but if one needed an organ transplant they are likely multiple options. So there’s that...

I guess "silver eel" is another nickname for true congers.

I had to get nerdy...but technically a "silver eel" is an American Eel that has matured and is preparing to migrate to the Sargasso Sea and make elvers :)

Funny how local nicknames make critter identification so much more confusing :)

Not sure which side is supposed to be correct and which side is supposed to be a nick name :)

Locally an ocean pout is incorrectly identified as a conger eel - which can be confusing since we regularly catch both :eek:

This is a conger eel - Conger Oceanicus - they get to be five or six feet long around here :th:

And this is an Ocean Pout - Zoarces Americanus - seen them up to about three feet. We also call them "muppets' for obvious reason :laugh:

Did the Conger make the diner table, if so how was it? The two footers caught at the Jersey docks I guess are adult silver eels?

Negative...it was released :) Any eek caught at the dock in NJ is almost certainly an American Eel. I did catch my first real Conger eel on the front of a jetty in the middle of the night on a rigged eel - scared the crap out of me...never saw an eel with a mouth full of teeth like that :scared:

Kingfish = sea mullet (NC)

Since I was a kid, I always referred to kingfish as Tommycod.

Anyone else ever call them Tommycod up here in Jersey?
