Tiny Swivels

I just received some Gamakatsu stainless barrel swivels from Surfcaster. I usually use Sampo size 5 (90 lb test). I ordered the 80 pound Gamakatsu swivels because they were touted as being small. Man, that is true. These babies are tiny. The 80 pounders are about 7/16" long. The leader material will just barely go through the holes. You certainly couldn't use these swivels as a handle to drag a fish. Anyone had any experience with them?

Mick,

One problem with small swivels, especially at night, is that you can accidently reel them up into and through the rod tip guide. This is very annoying as you have to stop and pull them back out. For that reason, I use swivels that are just large enough not to fit through the tip.

I haven't tried it yet myself, but someone mentioned slipping a plastic bead from a craft store on your line before you tie on your swivel. That will keep the swivel from going through the eye and provide enough shock absorbtion to keep the eye from cracking.
