What do you think? What is possibly making Americans angrier then they were 20+ years ago?

Poll: Americans Say We're Angrier Than A Generation Ago

Scott Hensley

Nearly 9 in 10 Americans say people are more likely to express anger on social media than in person.

Do you find yourself getting ticked off more often than you used to?

If the answer is yes, you're not alone.

Some 84% of people surveyed said Americans are angrier today compared with a generation ago, according to the latest NPR-IBM Watson Health poll.

When asked about their own feelings, 42% of those polled said they were angrier in the past year than they had been further back in time.

Anger can have an effect on health.

"I think of anger as a health risk," says Dr. Anil Jain, vice president and chief health information officer at IBM Watson Health. "The fact that the survey showed that we have a generation of Americans who believe that they are more angry than they were a generation ago tells me that this is going to lead to some consequences from a health point of view."

What makes people mad?

Look, we could ask only so many questions about that, so don't be angry with us.

But we wondered, what about the news? Is that a factor?

The poll found that 29% of people said they were often angry when checking the news. Another 42% said the news sometimes made them angry.

Older people — age 65 and up — were a little less likely to say that they were often angry when checking the news. Only 21% of seniors were in this category, compared with 38% of people younger than 35.

There was a similar difference in reactions to social media. Only 7% of people 65 and above said they were often angry when using social media, compared with 18% of people under 35.

The poll found that seniors are much less likely to use social media, however, with 28% saying they don't use social media at all, compared with only 2% of people younger than 35 not using it.

In a related question, we asked if people are more likely to express their anger on social media than in person. Overall, 9 in 10 people said that was the case. Perhaps that result is no surprise, but the near unanimity of the opinion on that score seems worth noting.

This year, we took a look at anger in a series of stories that explored the evolutionary roots of anger, the contagious nature of anger in real-life social networks and how you can name your personal anger to help control it. That last story might be helpful after reading this one.

Finally, the poll asked if people think anger is a negative emotion. Almost 7 in 10 said it is. But 31% said that isn't the case. In some instances, as our anger series found, getting mad may be motivating and help lead someone to action.

The nationwide poll collected responses from 3,004 people during the first half of November 2018. The margin of error is +/- 1.8 percentage points.

Social media and the internet. Just take you as an example. You go to a litany of sites every day just looking to get outraged and then share the ones that got you going with others hoping they get outraged as well.

Soy boys, they get angry on line going to punch Nazi's in the face.  In real life they hardly ever leave Mom's basement.

I wouldn't really know how to answer that question honestly.

About whether you are angrier or why you are actually angrier?

It seems the stress levels in society are up a couple of notches, to me, anyway.

I blame Trump.

There are some hair triggered, feral Democrats about, spitting on folks in upscale lounges.

Cities are exploding with homelessness, and all the ills that come with that.

Folks are strung out, stressed out, and spent out.

Didn't take long for it to get personal.... :niffty:

Anonymity is the sole cause. Hiding behind a screen name and saying things you would not say face to face.

Fear.

Fear is what fuels bullies...  (initially)

The propaganda went full prog around 2007 and then went full tilt during the last election. No reservation-no restraint-no pretention exposing that the MSM IS the anti-USA prog party. The sharing of this SATURATION propaganda IS the main reason for these social media devices.

As noted by J#11-the ANONYMITY is a major factor. It's akin to the behavior of people in cars-only magnified. It's the main ingredient of the kool aide. It IS BIASED and engineered to be addicting. Note that the creators do NOT allow their children to be infected by their own handiwork.

The indoctrinated legion is taught to HATE and to justify violent actions against this HATE simultaneously while being trained that they are morally superior for feeling & expressing this HATE.

The legion -even in their obedience-are not completely without thought- somehow the majority can sense that they are being manipulated, played and deceived. They can't rationalize some of their own thoughts or even what pours out of their mouths which just ramps up frustration and feeds the anger.

It is clear to them that there are clearly two types of justice, that PC goes only one way, that the MSM incites just to incite etc etc-  and even if it benefits the prog side-the know that it's not fair or just.

They are taught to believe that IF they can just get to LIBTOPIA that everything will be .....beautiful (ala smollett interview) but even through the fog of deception they know that it;s not true. Yet that is what the propaganda wants them to prioritize.

Aspartame & Tofu?  -Initially supposed to be beneficial.  Aspartame is part of the deception that fuels the anger. It's poison. Soy-some nutritional benefits but not the hyped answer. On the joking side- perhaps meant to check some of the anger. Aspartame the carcinogen that makes one fat-our population in general IS fat and regardless of the positive, plus size- propaganda -obesity tends to piss off almost everybody.
