Penn Fierce LL Size Help

I'm looking for a light tackle reel to use on the surf for Whiting, Small Bluefish, Croaker, etc., as well as inshore salt marsh fishing for trout, redfish, and sheepshead. In the surf I would be probably using a small fish finder rig or a hi-low pompano rig, and inshore a popping cork. I really like the LL feature as I am primarily a bait fisherman, although lures may be used somewhat.

3000 seems to be the right size for me, but I am debating if I should buy the 2500 or the 4000. The smaller the better, but I'm afraid the smaller reel is too small. I am a monofilament guy so that does cut down on my line capacity, although I could use braided line if needed with no problems.

Thanks!

2500 is a small reel, 6-10lb mono.  What size mono did you plan on using?

Probably 8-10 pound mono. Or 10 pound braid.

10lb braid would hold about 240 yards on the 2500 and has a max drag around 7lbs.

If you decide to go 10lb mono I would recommend the 4000LL.
