How do you fish these reels???

I've always been confused by these reels, how do you fish these guys? Are they only to control how much line you have out, or do you actually reel fish in with these?

They fight them on the reel.  Used a bit out west mooching salmon, etc.  I have a couple of them, some of them wooden ones by Peetz, but I can't say I've ever used them.

Pflueger Sal Trout and pakron, etc were some mass produced similar versions used for trolling.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. The smaller ones just feel goofy to fight fish on and such.

jkrock your right about mooching reels as your video shows. But the reel shown says uncle buck ultra light reel made by B&M. They are cane pole reels for panfish. Not trying to argue I could be wrong.

Agree with you completely.  I looked quickly at the picture and didn't read the model. etc.  Not what I thought it was when I replied
