Shimano Ultegra CI4 5500 --EVA Knob size and specs?

Hello all,

 

I'm looking to put a direct fit EVA power knob on my Ultegra CI4 XTC (lightweight carbon model) and am literally mystified as to which one to select.  I looked on Ebay and found Gomexus makes a nice 38 mm oval shaped EVA power knob for $17.75 delivered, but the ad said it's for a Shimano Ultegra 1000-4000 reel handle (reel handle A--whatever this means?).  So not confident it will direct fit (and Gomexus wasn't sure either --I emailed them the same Q).

 

Wondering if anyone out there has switched out the Ultegra stock knob for a similar EVA power knob and can let me know the make/model/specs...price/details, so I can follow you.

I assume you have the Ultegra CI4+ 5000 XTC.  Mine is the earlier CI4+ 5500 XSB with the type S handle (which means the handle is held onto the shaft by a screw, vice a rivet.  Attached is link to the Gomexus Aluminum Power Knobs that I used, Look at all the images to see what they mean by a type S handle vice one that requires "drill fitment".

Alternately, you could contact Jigging World.  More expensive, but  a lot of folks on here have recommended them (do a site search).

I tried the Gomexus type-S EVA knob on my Ultegra Ci4 5500 XSC and it didn't fit. There is a ridge on the shaft that doesn't allow knob to slide on.

I attached a few pics of my Ultegra 5500 Ci4 specs.  Does the gomexus knob you recommended still look like it will fit.  I actually like it and at $15 seems reasonable.  You like the 38 mm size?

I have the 5500 XSB and wanted both more cranking power and larger knob. I installed the Aero Technium MGS XSB power handle with a type B knob (chose yumeya 45mm)......This was some time ago and it may have been one of my Kisu Special handles and the correct combination of washers (two) for the type B knob.

Cannot read the part Number for your handle assembly, but on the CI4+5500XSB, it is part number RD16052, which has an "A" type handle shaft

I have a Gomexus 45mm knob sitting around waiting for me to drill a Spinfisher V 7500LC handle, so I decided to try it on my Ultegra 5500 Ci4 XSC, and it fit like a charm, straight bolt on. I would have preferred to have the 38mm EVA handle, but them's the brakes, I'll order a silver one for my Shimano.

 

 

Shimano handle B is what my Ultegra 5500 Ci4 XSC has, so should your XTC.

Hey JK47 that 45 mm gomexus looks pretty good.   My Ultegra 5500 Ci4 has the same shaft dimensions so that should fit mine as well at least I think.  I got the gomexus 38 mm Eva knob but it did not fit....too bad because it was very nice —crappers.  I’m going to try it on another reel.  

 

I put the paddle handle back on the Ultegra and will just use it.  Maybe I’ll get the 45 mm alum model that you used but I really liked the Eva better.

@Rob greenpond Lol, I told you the 38mm EVA Gomexus knob wouldn't fit. It's on the Daiwa Back Bay in the photo below, and the silver 45mm Gomexus aluminum arrived today and is now installed on my Ultegra 5500 Ci4 XSC.

 

 

The only difference between my 5500 and yours is the color.

Hey JK47,  ya I deserved that told ya so. Lol!   I’ll repurpose it though just like you did.   We have the same taste in reels though as I was looking at that DIAwa backbay too—very nice and the Eva knob matches perfect.

 

I looked on eBay and found the alum gomexus in both 45mm and 38mm....you think the 45mm is the correct size for this reel now that you’ve tried it??  Or you think 38?

I would prefer a 38mm knob, but the only 38mm Gomexus knobs I have seen WILL NOT FIT, they are for Shimano handle type-A, WE HAVE TYPE-B.

 

I was warned by mods not to post links to commercial sites, but will say I bought my 45mm knob from amazon for $19.99.
