Fluke from the surf 2019

Finally got out to target fluke in the surf yesterday.

Started to worry after 45 minutes without a tap.  Moved down the beach and ended up with 7 shorts at that spot. Guy near me got an 18 and a diver speared a keeper right out in front of me.

Drive north to a second spot and first cast get a bass right in the lip, in like 6 inches of water! On a Scabelly bucktail with Yum paddle worm trailer.

Ended with 10 Fluke all on the white 4" gulp...

Good day.

This fish didn't fight until it was 5' from shore. Felt the pick up halfway in a cast to the bar, but using circle hook, I just cranked the reel a bit and it came along. I'd wait for it to take off (which it didn't) and then repeat. I was starting to think I had a big crab on! Ended up just shy of 19".

First trip out front in a while now and I saw a bunch of small ones pulled out on gulp. I kept tossing a bucktail but couldn't buy anything. Tried drifting some bugs too but nada. My girlfriend plucked 3 out on a white 4" storm shad and lost another decent one. Biggest was around 17" but unfortunately I didn't have my tape measure. I'm really glad she got into a few fish and hopefully we'll get a few keepers together this summer from the shore!

Sounds like a great outing and glad to hear your girlfriend was hooking up on the shad!

Maybe mark 18 and 28 inches on your rods with electrical tape for quick measure, keep or release?

I'll be throwing a small green shad next time out :)

So far this season I've noticed....

They don't like the teaser at all, take it off all together.  They don't like the offering dragged.  They are hitting hard, like a fired up bluefish when you get it right.  Maybe they've gotten use to the same old **** and shy away from it.

I previously had it marked on my rods for trout but haven't done it yet on my surf rods so I'll probably do that soon for quick reference. Yum, the chartreuse shad is my second favorite with white coming in first. Hope you do well!

It's small, dint have it here with me but think 3 inch.

Some people swear by the green ones for fluke.

I'd imagine white would be just as good.

Yeah. Will you use that on the dropper loop as a teaser or at the bottom of the rig?

Bottom, replacing the BT or bank sinker, etc.

Was fishing one last week and it felt good, wasnt dragging bottom.....then I had to break it off. Fishing a rock pile.

Out front in the surf for fluke I use:

Shimano Teramar TMS-X70MH 7' with Diawa BG3000-Under 1 pound combined and easy on the arms.

Rattle buck tail with Gulp swimming mullet/dropper loop with Gulp New Penny Shrimp

8 times out of 10 the fish is on the dropper loop shrimp.

That sounds like a nice setup! Nice catching too.

You like that BG?

The new penny shrimp can be deadly. Think I'll try some tomorrow!

The BG is fantastic!

I hooked a 25lb+ Cow Nose Ray and landed it about a half block away! The reel handled it well, I did have to palm the spool a bit.
