While snorkeling with a pole spear, I used to see your pals the kingfish, before I knew what they were doing the same thing in late summer at my favorite string of jetty in Monmouth, before they were notched by the usual suspects.

I've thought about taking up the snorkel.

I've been fluking and had surfers report bass cruising inside the bar.....in the summer.

They were right!

Surfers have a lot of Intel if you talk to them.

If you have three of them as sons its even better as advance scouts!

Fluke can be in real skinny water at your feet. Always retrieve all the way in. I've caught them in water less than 10".

As for the summer time bass...

They are usually keyed in on small bait. 2" spearing. My favorite rig to catch them is a 1oz naked diamond jig, 18" above it is a white silver surf candie or teaser.  Thin one. Nothing more than 3" and thin. The diamond jig would puff the sand when jigging it. I think that triggered the bass to take a peek. It's almost like fishing for bonefish. Crystal clear water. And the bass blend in really well with the bottom. Lighter color. Most are under 20". Polarized glasses are a must.

Fished with my son today but only spent a short time on fluke in the surf.

He did get one to bite a 1oz Kastmaster with a short light green and white rubber worm trailer. Right at the lip!

Mole crab fly!

Nice fly!

I tried this one for a while as a teaser with a Scabelly flea glider. No luck yet, but will give it more time soon.

DId manage a fluke 2" short on the real thing when the sun came up.
