Forward Balanced Bucktails Again!

We all know about the qualities of a "forward balance" bucktail for surf and other shallow water fishing. Here's a few for consideration.

First is the classic Bullet Head style.  These are tied with generous amounts of deer hair to create a slower drop and help them "float" over rocky bottoms.  A little less prone to hanging up in rocks they can also frequently be "finessed" out when they do get snagged.  Because of this they are popular on jetties and over rocky bottoms.  A good addition would be pork rind, Otter Tails or a variety of soft plastic to add action.  Sizes up to 4 oz. and colors as shown.  Specials are done if possible. Here's pricing and pictures.

1/2 oz = $4.25 ea

3/4 oz = $4.50 ea

1 oz = $4.75 ea

1 1/2 oz = $5.00 ea

2 oz = $5.50 ea

3 oz = $6.50 ea

4 oz = $7.25 ea

Next is the long time favorite Banana Head.  A more streamlined design than the bullet head makes them a little less prone to catching seaweed and grass in the water.  The head shapes lends itself to adding long trailers like pork rind or soft plastic worms or eels. Because of the head shape and less hair dressing these will drop faster and cut current a little better than the bullet head.  These are a good choice for rivers and inlets.  Sizes up to 3 oz. and colors as shown.  Ideas for specials are always accommodated if possible.  Prices and picture.

1/2 oz = $3.75 ea

3/4 oz = $3.85 ea

1 oz = $4.15 ea

1 1/2 oz = $4.75 ea

2 oz = $5.25 ea

2 1/2 oz = $5.50 ea

3 oz = $5.80 ea

Last in this thread is the Teardrop or "canal" bucktail.  These provide a longer profile than the bullet head and have less hair dressing so they work a bit better in a current.  Sizes up to 4 oz. and colors as shown.  The larger sizes can be tied with or without the feathers shown in the picture.  As with the other forward balance heads a added trailer is a good idea. Pork rind, Otter Tails or soft plastic are all good choices.  Sizes up to 4 oz and colors shown but specials are Ok too. Picture and pricing.

1/2 oz = $3.75 ea

3/4 oz $3.85 ea

1 oz = $4.15 ea

1 1/2 oz = $4.75 ea

2 1/2 oz = $5.75 ea

4 oz = $6.50 ea

General notes.

First paint coat is heat cured powder for durability.

Accent colors are sprayed vinyl and either epoxy or clear powder coated for toughness.

Hooks are Mustad, 2x strong, forged and tin plated for saltwater use.  In some cases the new Mustad 2x strong black nickel hook will be used.

Dressing is deer hair and wraps are epoxy coated.

Shipping is extra.

Thanks for looking and good luck fishing!

Hey dan, what's the difference if there is one between these banana heads and your sparkie fluke heads.  Thanks!

Lots of differences.  They are intended for different purposes.

The banana heads have a deep, narrow profile.  They will drop faster per equivalent weight, cut thru a current better and are intended to be used on a more or less steady retrieve.  Also, because of their narrow profile are less likely to get snagged in rough bottom or rocks.

Sparkies have a flatter, wider profile.  They drop slower and don't cut a current as well as a banana head.  Retrieve is best done slow with stops and hops across the bottom.  It's basically imitating a crab or other bottom dweller.  Because of the wider shape it's best to avoid rough bottoms.

I hope this helped.  If not don't hesitate to ask more questions.

That's perfect, thank you.  I'll hop over to your other thread then.
