Hey  my question is does anyone fish live eels on weighted hooks or light jig head ?        I know people  usually fish with size 7 or 8 hooks with live eels.  Will it affect the swimming/action of the eels

Thanks

Use your regular set up and add a rubber core sinker about 1 foot up the leader. Weight of sinker will depends upon how deep you want the eel to go.  It will not effect the swimming action of the eel.

The water I fish is  shallow.

For sluggos I use 1/2 o 3/4 ounce but for some reason i cannot catch with them for 2 seasons  now  the guy next to me catch consistently.    So I'm trying to switch it up with live eels.     I have alot of weight hooks just trying see if anyone use it.     Ill try the method you describe tonight.

Thanks

Yeah, they do.    I dont want the eel to plain upward or sweeped around too much. When fishing slow and rod up.

Going out tonight so just trying to cover my bases Ha

I used to put the weight inside the eel, much better distance and no tangles

Doing it to live eels or dead?  And how on live eels?

Nice interesting on weighted live eels.  Gotta experiment with that.

Getting eels to eat sinkers is gonna be fun haha

Put the sinkers in a peanutbunker and jellyfish sandwich - they’ll never notice. LOL.

At inlets with strong current I've used drails with a lot of success . Gets the eel down in the strike zone quickly , and you can change the weight as needed depending on current conditions. The drails have a snap on one side and an eyelet on the other . Just clip it on the front of your leader.

That is the best option to added enough weight to cast a light eel or provide more weight to get it out further One of the best weights is a rubber core stuffed inside the mouth and or special weights like is used to weigh down wood plugs . depending on the size of the eel you can insert from 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 ounces.
