Anyone have experience with the newer Daiwa surf rod lure weight ratings?

They have been known to be a little optimistic in years past.  Have they been rating their rods more accurately?

What gives?

I bought a Daiwa Proteus NE this year for the spring/early season. 7'6 MH XF .5-1.5oz. It throws the heavier part of its rating very well and I would not be surprised if it could handle 2oz (I haven't tried). It's probably too stiff for what I intended it for. I might sell it for only that reason alone, otherwise an awesome well made stick.

No Daiwa rod users?

yes..I have two10ft Team Daiwas...over rated..one of them is rated 1-4oz..but I wouldnt go past 2 3/4-3 absolute max.. The other is the 2-6oz...I just got it recently, threw a 3oz bucktail easily..havent had a chance to throw anything heavier with the crap weather. The 1-4 is a very good stick though.

My daily driver has been an 11 foot tournament ballistic rated 2-8

I throw 1 to 6 with it and it loves it.   I've thrown up to the 8 ounce rating and it handles it fine.

My first good surf rods were Team daiwa rods 20 years ago...rated to 5 ounces....fell flat on their faces with 3.  These are different as far as I can tell.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a Team Daiwa 5-8oz that cant do anywhere close to 8 except for a lob.

Also a couple Sealine surfs, the old blue ones, rated 3-6.  They max at 4.

Really good to see your doing well Scoob after that complicated thumb transplant surgery you had to endure!:p
