Livefreeordie
Shad are a blast to catch. I need to designate a few trips towards targeting them. It's hard, tho...because stripes are fairly easy to find now, and easier to catch

First build a time machine; go back to the early thru mid- 70’s; tune WTIC - any older person of that era can assist; listen throughout the morning during the season. There was a daily Shad report from the Enfield Dam on this station when I was a kid. If you google “Bob Steele Shad Report” you will see a May 1, 1977 NYTimes article (Out on the Shad Run) describing the show. It used to be a big deal and this article captures both the magnitude and ritual of this annual occurrence and the change that has occurred in and along the Connecticut River. Included in this artyare tips for catching and preparing Shad as well as information about early CT and it’s Salmon fishery. Enjoy.

natsgrampy
river is crazy high right now. Great River Park in East Hartford is completely under water. Can't even get to the parking lot. Will probably be at least 2 weeks before it is fishable. If the rain ever stops. How much snow is left upstream? Last week there was a place in Vermont where 100 inches was measured. bdowning
Big disparity this past winter in snow pack in northern and central NE vs southern NE. And the CT River and Merrimack are carrying most of the runoff right thru Mass and CT. Yes, we have a wait. Pfantum Pfishah
