Barr Slays Another Barr-Derangement Dragon on Wednesday

Remember being told here that Barr was going to whitewash the Mueller report so well that he would hide any negative information about Trump? That was responding to the DOJ policy that says Justice cannot publicize information about individuals who are not indicted. The naysayers here and elsewhere argued against that saying the politicians have no such protections.

Guess what, they were wrong and right. Wrong in that there won't be any whitewash of derogatory information about Trump, right as to why.

In this case, they were far more wrong than right.

The Associated Press:

Attorney General William Barr says he won’t withhold any derogatory information about President Donald Trump contained in special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

Barr tells Congress that concerns about protecting the reputations of people not criminally charged in the Russia probe don’t apply to “office holders” such as the president. That was one of four criteria Barr has said he is using to redact Mueller’s nearly 400-page report.

Barr has said he expects to release a redacted document within a week. He is facing questions about his handling of the report during a Senate subcommittee hearing on Capitol Hill.

Hmmm, Obama, Lynch, Rice, Brennan, et al were all 'office holders' at the time.

Politicians and diapers should be changed often and regularly,  invariably for the same reason.

I think I mentioned in one thread on Dems demanding the release of the entire report with no redactions being a case of "be careful what you wish for". That is, given the investigation was about Russian interference, it was not limited to the Trump campaign exclusively. That there could be mention of Democrats in there that the Dems might not like to see the light of day.

Quote

Democrats blink, sort of, not willing to go nuclear in order to get unredacted Mueller report. Why?

Could it be that they really DO NOT WANT AN UNREDACTED REPORT TO BE MADE PUBLIC?

No one outside the people who have seen it know what is in it. In the back of the Dems' minds, including Schiff's, has to be the nagging thought that maybe, just maybe, Barr's summary was an accurate reflection of the report's conclusions. Further, maybe they are worried that there might be some redactible information in there which might no shine well on Democrats.

Like what? Steele Dossier. What if the investigation of "Russian interference" including a misinformation campaign that resulted in material in the Dossier, which was paid for by Democrats. Under current rules, that information would not be able to be made public given it affects people not under indictment. But to force an unredacted report into the public realm, that too would be fair game.

Again, "be careful what you wish for", is operative, and the smartest Dems understand that all too well.

So they are blinking, backing off of the one extreme step that could force the release of the full text.

I've previously alluded to similar with the same sentiments.

The dust storm the Dems have raised over this will eventually choke them.
