When it's rough, bright is good.  When it's really dark, dark works.   I'd start using bright, then go to dark if it doesn't work.   When it's calm, as real looking as I can get.

Fish in current and rough water have little time to take advantage of it.  When it's calm, they can check it out better.

I always got white and purple or dark red jigs with me.  1 to 3oz+ for inlets.  3/4 to 2oz on surf.   Super strike bottle popper, white or white/red, blue/white, and purple.   AVA jig and a yellowish lure when sand eels are around.

For realistic stuff, blue/white, silver/white, and green/yellow work well.

Slack tide at inlets eel lures, dark jigs, or those rubber shads work good.

Muddy water bright green / bright yellow can be your friend.

Srsly* ban ringer and fishless.

Anyway, them stripers were cannibalistic last night. Got most of my fish on a striper pattern bomber. If I was just starting out again, I'd look at almost nothing but bombers, SP Minnows, bucktails and a few topwater plugs. Swim shads have always produced in the surf for me.

Forgot to add, "color" doesn't matter much in most situations, just dark or light.

Stay away from pricey wood.

This is the year of the bone.  Bone during the day, bone at night as in this past Fri which was new moon and the darkest night of the month yet bone worked.  Don't get too caught up into it.  The fish will tell you what they want.

So? Ya like the bone huh?
