Delmarva Fishin' Reports - April 2019

From what I've seen the netters are into schools of big stripers already as far north as OC but fisherman from the beach only seem to be into drum so far. I've seen this pattern before. What gives?

As for a report, I wanted to drum fish this past weekend, but I didn't have enough time so I opted for some guaranteed pullage and hit the back bays early, early one morning. I caught the standard fare of 20 - 24" stripers without much effort, along with a bunch of dinks back there too <12", and picked up a barely short flounder working a Bomber Long A across a flat prospecting for blues after sunrise.

I still think we really need to limit being so specific with locations, in the NJ thread it's either out front or out back.  You don't need more detail than that.  DE has much less real estate to fish and tons of lurkers on here looking at reports, just be vague with the location.

Ok, Good info. Will do next time.

Is the entire surf-side of Delaware just trucks soaking boat? Went to Henlopen and couldn't find a single spot to surf cast. Small section of people swimming with trucks lined as far as the eye can see left and right, no gaps for me. Hour and 20 minute drive just to turn around and drive halfway home to fish the bay.

After Memorial Day, yeah, pretty much. Except most of them won't even be soaking bait. Just hanging out, partying and swimming on the beach. This time of year though, you should still be able to find spots to fish. Try moving further South. CHSP is usually the most crowded and it thins out as you move south. There are several drive-ons in DSSP where you should be able to find space. Fenwick should be even better.

Mostly, yes.  Try at night or out back.  I took the day off yesterday and was shocked how many people were on the beach.

For my report- took me a while to find them yesterday but I eventually stumbled upon a steady hour-long pick of blues to 8lbs & one bass out back.  They were keyed in on thin white baits & barely would touch anything else.  Ton of fun on a 7' light rod.

Threw poppers on 4/22 for 4 hours in the lower Delaware Bay and landed one big bluefish. Only bite I had.  On 4/23 fished lower Delaware out front.  Landed a nice weakfish(what a surprise!) and a couple of stripers about the same size plus all the shorts you wanted.  Small white swim baits worked.
