What’s the best way to catch the earliest of stripers and blues?  For the greatest chance of hooking a fish in early April, would you go with lures or bait?  What lure or bait would you use?

A lot of guys may disagree but... lures 100% ..

I was catching all through January, took February off to fish trout, and I've been catching since mid March again.. I only use lures...

I find that cold water lazy fish need to be really enticed or really pissed off to strike...

Slow floating or suspending Jerkbaits (or lipped minnows worked like jerkbaits) are my go to 95% of the time in cold water...

Why would you use bait to catch schoolies? You are much more likely to gut hook these fish for no reason .... soft plastics all the way.

I dead stick bait on one rod and toss lures on another rod. Then when I get tired I just let the lure hang off the rods tip and wait to get a hit on the dead stick...

Paddle tail grubs I use H&H much cheaper than others and tons of color options they have a 3 and 4 in. I also likes 14A and 15A Bomber or similar floater/shallow diving lures. Need to have suspended jerk bait as well.
