Not sure about you but if this is me, my first inclination would not be to take a photo. After “WTF?” I would be seeking to put something solid between me and Robin Hood. Crazy at three different levels, including the victim almost becoming a Darwin Award nominee.

Smartphone Stops Arrow When Absurdly Lucky Man Tries to Photograph Attacker

Andrew Liszewski

Apple likes to tout its smartwatch’s heart-tracking features as being able to potentially save a user’s life one day. But a man in Nimbin, New South Wales, Australia, may owe his life to his smartphone, which stopped an arrow fired by an assailant while he was trying to snap a photo.

Always use a screen protector—it might one day help save your life.

According to the NSW Police Force, the victim pulled into his driveway on the morning of March 13, 2019, only to notice a man standing outside his property armed with a bow and arrow when he got out of his car. That’s not something you see every day, even in Australia, so police say he pulled out his phone to snap a photo of the archer when the armed man raised his bow and fired.

Instead of hitting the victim, the arrow pierced the back of the raised smartphone, leaving a sharp tip protruding a couple of inches through the device’s display on the other side, and completely removing its screen protector—the man’s last line of defense. According to police, the only injury was a small laceration on the victim’s chin caused by the momentum of the arrow’s impact, which sent the phone flying into his face.

Authorities say the 39-year-old alleged attacker was arrested at the scene and charged with “armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and malicious damage.” He was reportedly granted conditional bail and is set to appear in court next month.

As for the smartphone? Last we checked, arrow strikes aren’t typically covered under warranties.

Wow, I think the guy was aiming for the phone, he was like an Aussie Green Arrow or something. Good thing it was a target head and not one of those fancy grenade or nerve gas heads like Green Arrow and Hawkeye use.

Good thing they took away their guns

They didn't take our guns away, just stop with the incorrect facts. Find out the facts before you post.

Ahh, yes they did and you could use a little edumaction yourself.  Not just because of Port Arthur or that University incident either (the hell was the name of that place...can't recall?).  Your team has been signing off on gun control since the mid 20th century.  That's why you must have a license (which is "bloody" difficult to attain mate).

Look, it works for your people and gun laws are HIGHLY liked in Australia so good for you.

We won't go down like that...

In 1989 there were 2.4 million gun owners out of about 18 million people - 13% of the population

Now there are 800,000 gun owners and 25 million people - only 3% of the population.

So, they took most of your guns away....

Riiiggght.  They just 'reduced' gun ownership by some 80% or more.

And thats if you count a single shot shotgun as a gun.

Keep livin' free mate

That's either a brilliant shot, or a very unlucky one.

The assailant shoulnd't get any attempted murder charges though... field point.  Clearly wasn't intending to kill anything.

The assailant merely had an aversion to being photographed.  No harm.  No foul.  Unless speaking from Siri's point of view.
