Dredging in Mt. Sinai harbor

It's all done, and AFAIK it was limited to the channel.

Judging by eyeball, the channel has moved a little bit farther away from the eastern, Cedar Beach side, but it's not a lot. I'll be going back to spend a silly hour or two with a 1322 and a 3 oz sinker at low tide, trying to form a better mental map of the contour of the new bottom.

I'd hoped a little bit more of the channel would be within a long cast of the shoreline, but my tentative impression is that the channel moved a little bit farther away. Further comments and speculations to follow.

Here’s a couple of shots I took of the inlet during end of dredging.  You can clearly see in the 2nd photo that they totally removed the very large point that used to stick out from Mt. Sinai side.

And some of her first snappers were cut there, on the inside of that point.

No more cool seashells that point was cover with.

It also looks like they fixed but dramatically shortened the pier, right?  But maybe that's old news.  I haven't been down that way for a while.

I think they did shorten the pier. The dredging appears complete, but there's a guy from Brookhaven Public Safety keeping pedestrians, as well as cars, out of the road in front of the pier, and the now-nonexistent point. (The public safety guy and I had a nice talk about blackfish on Tuesday) Why the road is still closed off, I have no idea.

I think you can still use the pier by parking on the street (look for the road edges lined by logs) and walking through the closed parking lot in front of the closed bathroom building. I've seen people on the pier, and the yellow no-trespassing tape does not cover the walkway to the pier.
