So I've been wanting to get into some larger turnings that I can't do between centers.

I have a large Rockwell lathe that has the ability to turn outboard but I've no idea how to go about attaching a tool rest

Those of you that outboard turn, how did you set it up ??

(picture is not my lathe, but the same lathe)

I saw Mr MacLeod's post over in the duplicator thread - the concrete bucket idea looks intriguing but I have to wonder if it would get in the way of my feet.

first I'm going to ask how large a dia. are you wanting to turn? and how long.

if your banjo comes out far enough for what you want to do purchase a second one off e-bay...have a tool rest made from angle iron with two posts wielded onto the angle iron far enough apart to fit your lenght you want to spin..I did this for 2' or better long plugs.
