Sooooooooooooooooooo, who else is planning on being out there Opening Day?

I need a break in this weather to get some engine maintenance and painting done, but I'm still hoping to go in this time next week, and wet a line on Friday 3/1.

Some health issues slowing me down but i have lots of questions.

i have my boat up in Beach Haven west, and would like to try more fishing south of me but I’m still really new.

will there be any stripers still around in April in the Great Bay Mulica area?

is it mostly a trolling game or should i be trying something else?

thank you,

jim

There "should" be.  It's most a game of anchoring up with bloods and/or clam, anywhere you can avoid the blue claws, but the last couple of years have been slim pickings.

It "should" be fidgit Stripers in March, better caliber Stripers in April, and Bluefish in May, but we'll see.

don't forget the weakfish in the spring.

I haven't seen a Weakfish in years.  Used to catch them at will on shedder crab, but I don't even try any more.

Admittedly, that's mainly because I don't really like eating them, but even as bycatch, I'm not seeing them.

Used to be massive schools of Spike Weakies out front, in 30+ of water early Fall, but I haven't come across them in years either.

I caught a nice keeper size weakfish up by the lighthouse from shore this past October while togging. Other than that haven’t seen them.

id like to target them this spring too. They’re fun to catch
