Helix 7 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G3

410950-1   Helix 7 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G3

Getting ready to order this cool new FF for my Pro Angler 12.  Plan was to install in the Lowrance ready port under the boat,

and use the BerleyPro Humminbird Transducer mount, so the FF could sit below the boat.

However,

Austin Kayak says the standard transducer for this model won't work with the BerleyPro mount.

and BerleyPro hasn't answered my email report for clarification.

Has anyone heard anything about how you're supposed to mount this FF

Thx!!

John, the 2019 Outback looks like it already has a precut opening on the transducer shield for a SI transducer to sit below the hull into the water.   It is also retractable to protect the transducer from scraping the bottom when on land.

Hopefully, you are good with the Outback 2019.  Still, might be worth checking that the Mega transducer retracts fully.

The transducer for the Helix 7 Mega is a different part number than the SI transducer for some of the earlier models.
Helix 7 Mega SI  uses XNT 9 HW MSI 150T

The BerleyPro Humminbird transducer mount is for these two transducers

XNT 9 SI 180 T

XHS 9 HDSI 180 T

Not exactly sure which FF use these

The transducer for the Helix 7 Mega is 8 1/4" long x 2 1/4" wide x 7/8 inch high.

Earlier Humminbird Transducers were  5.9" long  (XHS 9 HDSI 180T HDSI)

John, you mentioned exchanging the SI for HD SI but I don't think you can do that with the Mega SI - It's the highest resolution SI, isn't it?   I'm reading about it on the Humminbird website.

What are the differences between the various types of Side Imaging transducers?

The compact Side Imaging transducer, part number XNT 9 SI 180 T is made up of the following frequencies and beam angles:

200/83/455 kHz
20/60/180 degrees

This transducer was designed for use and was/is packed with the 398ci SI, 598ci SI, 698ci SI, 797c SI, 798c SI, 798ci SI, 798ci HD SI, 899ci HD SI, HELIX 5 SI GPS, HELIX 5 SI GPS G2, HELIX 7 SI GPS, HELIX 7 SI GPS G2, HELIX 7 SI GPS G2N and HELIX 9 SI GPS models.

The high definition Side Imaging transducer, part number XHS 9 HDSI 180 T is made up of the following frequencies and beam angles:

200/83/455/800 kHz
20/60/86(2)/55(2)

This transducer was designed for use and was/is packed with the 898c SI, 898c HD SI, 987c SI, 997c SI, 998c SI, 998c HD SI, 999ci HD SI, 1197c SI, 1198c SI, 1199ci HD SI, HELIX 10 SI GPS, HELIX 12 CHIRP SI GPS models.

This transducer can also be used with those products listed above under the XNT 9 SI 180 T .  However, those models do NOT support the 800 kHz elements in this transducer.*  Individuals may see enhanced performance from the 455 kHz element in the  XHS 9 HDSI 180 T  over that of the XNT 9 SI 180 T .

*NOTE:  The 899ci HD SI and the HELIX 9 SI GPS can support 800 kHz

The MEGA Side Imaging transducer, part number XM 9 20 MSI T  is made up of the following frequencies and beam angles:

83/200/455/800 kHz and 1.2 MHz
20/60/86(2)/55(2)

This transducer is packed with the HELIX 12 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G2N, HELIX 10 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G2N and the HELIX 9 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G2N models.

Because of internal wiring and the added 1.2 MHz, this transducer would not add any benefits if used with any other products.

This transducer was designed for use with our ONIX SI models being used in deep water applications.  It is also for use with the ION Series products in conjunction with a SM2000  or SM3000

The MEGA Side Imaging transducer, part number  XM 14 20 MSI T  is made up of the following frequencies and beam angles:

83/200/455/800 kHz and 1.2 MHz
20/60/86(2)/55(2)

This transducer is packed with the SOLIX 10 MEGA SI, SOLIX 12 MEGA SI and the SOLIX 15 MEGA SI models.  It can also be used with the ONIX 8 SI and ONIX 10 SI however these products will not gain any MEGA features.

Because of internal wiring and the added 1.2 MHz, this transducer would not add any benefits if used with any other products.

Yes, I think the transducer which comes with the unit (XNT 9 HW MSI 150T) is the only one that we can use.  Its freaking huge.....

Not sure if it will work with Guardian.

I was told by Austin Kayak that this one won't work with the new Mega Transducer is considerably larger than earlier SI transducers.
I've emailed Berley to see what they think, no answer yet.

We know it's larger than the SI transducer that's why BerleyPro created the Mega shield in 2017. The Mega transducer was available in the Helix 9 and up models. As far as I know the Mega trans is the same design from 2017 and now fits the new Helix 7 Mega unit.

Wow, you are right jlapenta. Just talked on the phone to Berley Pro USA (mariner sails). The mega that comes with the 2019 Helix SI is wider and longer.  It will be 6 months before they get around to making the product in Australia. BP USA says it may fit in the older Mega Cover #2608 but may need to be tinkered with to make it work.

Also worth noting I was told by BP USA, there is no clean way or an adapter yet to mount a Hummingbird Transducer to the Guardian Plate.

Wtf???   This looks like I got a standard transducer instead of a Mega???   In spite of what the box says.  Is it customary to have to make an exchange to upgrade on purchases such as this?  I never bought a ff with at least a HD or SI transducer before so I have no reference.

It does look like the SI. They might have stuffed it all in that housing.
