I give you that the law is kinda vague as written, and why I called to get some clarity. To be realistic the chances of any of it falling into place such that it would be an issue are slim. ;)

Surprised that RI will accept the NOAA registry in lieu of a state license....it is one of the few states that does.

I think Maine does, but not many.  Maine license is also only $1 and is reciprocal with RI.  But if you're going that route, ny is reciprocal too and is free.

Hi Carl, just finished calling that phone number you gave me for fishing license.  The lady said the licenses will be sent, no mention of service fee.

Thanks for the heads up about the service fee.

The service fee is for those who obtain there license through an outside vendor and not when you use the Marine Head quarters in Boston. I even get then to email it at times along with a hard copy , if I am in a rush for any reason.

There is a service fee even when ordering on line directly through Mass Marine Fisheries - called a service charge. It's about $1.35. It does allow unlimited printing via your PC should you loose the hard copy. Although many will simply pull up the e verison via smart phone should you be queried by an official.

I've been diligently carrying license in my pocket or on my phone since it's inception. Anxiously awaiting the day someone asks to see it. Sadly that day has yet to arrive. :(

For Massachusetts non-residents, the MA license is NOT reciprocal with RI and CT.

I do not believe this is correct. I asked this question last year in RI and they said I could use my Mass license even though I wasn’t a Mass resident. What they said was if you are a Mass resident and buy a RI license it is not good in Mass. Same is true in NH where I am a resident if I bought a Mass license I could not use it in NH.

just google MA Saltwater Refistery and it will guide you the site and in about two minutes you will beable to print out the Non-resident permit on your computer.  Over 60, including non Residents from all over the world pay a small fee and can print the permit at home.  It is a very simple  process.

You must look honest, or ornery.  :D

I've been checked 3 times, and I'm probably there less than 1/4 the time you are.

I always thought the RMV was a PITA to renew drivers license.  But the Mass Division of Marine Fisheries has them beat by a country mile.  I called to request to renew my saltwater and freshwater fishing license, lady said it would be sent.  Called back 2 weeks later to say I haven't received the license yet, told it would be sent.  Received license, only for saltwater, no freshwater license.  Called them back explained I requested both freshwater and saltwater license.  told it would be sent.  1 1/2 week goes by, still not freshwater license, called them again requesting freshwater license, told it would be sent.  Received (guess what) another saltwater license. I now have 2 saltwater license, no freshwater license. I'll call them again next week and request the freshwater license, maybe this time I will receive the correct one or I might end up with 3 satwater license.

Incompetent at its best.
